Thalawila, is a famous church in Puttalalm District which is visited by a large number of pilgrims year by year. The beach close to the church is also very attractive but best visited in the morning and in the evening as the sun becomes very hot towards noon. Take the Kalpitiya road from Palaviya junction (On Colombo – Puttalam road about 10 kilometers from Puttalam town).Thalawila Church and the beach is located about 27 kilometers from Palaviya Junction. Turn to left at the name board and this road passes through cultivated lands, marshes and sand hills giving a unique experience to the traveler. Onions, Cabbage, Chilies, Papaw and so many other plants are grown in spite of unfavorable weather.
